Sam Edelman Lorissa Pump (part shoe, part weapon in the right little hands!) I want these. Now if I can catch them on sale somewhere... Let the hunt begin ;-)

Press Play: Trust Me by Guru & N'Dea Davenport

As much as I love fashion and style, music is another love, so I'll be posting something music related every week in a new series, 'Press Play'

From Guru's (RIP) 1993 Jazzmatazz release, "Trust Me" was a personal favorite. The video didn't offer much but it was a typical early 90s East Coast hip hop effort. The lyrics and vocals were meant to be the substance. My how things how have changed... But I digress. Enjoy!

Put A Ring On It!

Did I really title this post with the chorus from the stupidest and most annoying song of 2008? Yes, I did. Please forgive me. Anyway, I love big cocktail rings and I usually wear one everyday. Although I have very small hands, I like a bold ring that screams "LOOK AT ME!!!!!"

Whenever I'm shopping, I take time to peruse the rings and end up buying a few. I once spent $60+ at Filene's Basement when I saw a table full of accessories marked down 70%. I think I bought nine rings that day. A stylish lady can never have too many cocktail rings, they add a little something to your look and can be quite the conversation starter.

Here's a few fun rings I found (I really like the animal styles):

Happy Birthday Michelle Obama!!!!!

1.17.2011

Today is a day of celebration and service. Our brilliant style icon, the First Lady of The United States, Michelle Obama turned 47 years old today. Woo-hoo!! Let's hear it for the CAPRICORNS!!!!

Mrs. Obama will join President Obama for a National Day of Service project in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. I wonder if the President plans to whisk his First Lady away for a birthday dinner date this evening?

Always fab...Even at a basketball game!! Loves it!!

Happy MLK Day: Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Saturday, January 15, 2011 would have been Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 82nd birthday
An excerpt from one of my favorite Dr. King speeches, The Drum Major Instinct:

Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice; say that I was a drum major for peace; I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter. I won’t have any money to leave behind. I won’t have the fine and luxurious things of life to leave behind. But I just want to leave a committed life behind. And that’s all I want to say.”-Martin Luther King Jr.

Haute Bag Lady Bag of The Week: Dooney & Bourke

Oh Dooney and Bourke, how I used to really like your bags. In high school, D&B bags were the low bag on the totem pole. Coach, Gucci, and Fendi were the "It" bags during that time. I have only owned two D&B bags in my life.

The Classic Satchel has caused me to rethink this legendary brand which has been somewhat quiet in recent years. The bag sells for $195 and comes in twelve colors.

The buttery soft calfskin, contrasting trim and simple logo make this classic style a win-win. Every woman should have a satchel style handbag. I think I'll add Dooney and Bourke back to my handbag watch list ;~)

A Hip Timepiece: Flüd BoomBox Watch

1.16.2011

My watch collection grows by at least two to three watches a year. I have a handbag fetish but watches are really becoming my new thing. Check out the BoomBox Watch in goldtone by Flüd.

I saw the Flüd BoomBox Watch in a Hip Hop Weekly magazine someone left on my hair stylist's chair last week. This watch is calling my name. I need this watch in my life.

This unique timepiece makes me want to rock an old school tracksuit, toss on furry Kangol, fold my arms, and pose all B-girl style with my lips twisted to the side... What? Too much?? Okay. Forget the Kangol, lol!

What do my stylishly hip readers think of the BoomBox Watch?

The Stylish Life If Ya' Nasty

Okay I know the title of this post is kinda corny, I couldn't resist though. I got my ticket to see my idol, the iconic Miss Janet Jackson when she comes to Chicago in March for her Number Ones Tour.

I cannot wait! I will be on my feet the entire night singing and dancing. I'm too excited. And if by chance ANY of Janet's people stumble across my little blog, feel free to contact me for a meet and greet. Many people say they're Janet's biggest fan but I really am.

The Walgreens in my neighborhood now carries the full line of Cococare products. The Vitamin E Skin Oil in 10,000 I.U. is a great addition to your product arsenal. I use it as:

  • P.M. moisturizer on my face
  • Cuticle care
  • Elbow grease, lol
  • Under eye treatment
I love multitasking products, especially one where a little goes a long way. This is a certified drugstore gem!

Mascara Lovin'

Want come hither lashes? Try me.

bareMinerals Flawless Definition mascara is my current eyelash love. I picked it up from Sephora on a whim last month and I have used it everyday. I can't say enough good things about this mascara. It seperates and gives me a great amount of volume. And no clumps!!!! I think I may have found "the one".

Haute Bag Lady Bag of the Week

1.10.2011

It was bag love at first sight when I spotted Marcie at Neiman Marcus last year. I am really starting to love Chloe bags (not loving the price tag though). The four digit price tag is way too steep for this working girl. I knew I had to back away from the bag when I was thinking about having my friend who was with me fake an asthma attack to create a diversion, thus providing me the opportunity to run like hell towards the exit, hop in one of the many cabs racing down Michigan Avenue and head home with my haute stolen bag.

Sadly fear of eternal damnation and the shame I would bring upon my family, brought me back to reality. My friend looked at me like I was crazy when I casually mentioned my asthma attack heist idea. Some friend she is! LOL!!!

The Marcie style is one of the most popular Chloe bags out now. The small and large version are both around $2,000. There is a python version  *swoons* that costs $4,000.

What do you think of the Marcie bag by Chloe? Haute or not?

Rockin' the Red Lip

1.03.2011

Hello Loves! Hope all is wonderful on the third day of the new year. I'm getting back into the work groove so please enjoy the Total Beauty sponsored post below.

I'm not a red lipstick kind of girl at all but I can appreciate this timeless beauty trend. My neighbor wears the most dreadful shade of red lipstick and it is downright frightening! I really wish she would find the right red for her complexion.
Finding the right shade for your skin tone can be frustrating, so we're here to help

Creme of Nature Argan Oil Replenishing Sheen Spray

1.02.2011

Creme of Nature's Argan Oil Replenishing Sheen Spray has been a wonderful replacement for my beloved Moroccan Oil Luminious Spray.
I absolutely adore the entire collection of Moroccan Oil hair products. My hair stylist uses the shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, and the oil. At home I use the oil and I was using the spray until the nozzle popped off and was lost forever. So frustrating! The can was more than half full which made me even more upset.

I decided to try Creme of Nature's Argain Oil Sheen while in Walgreens. The smell was almost identical to the Moroccan Oil spray and it was $15+ cheaper. I love it! Great scent. Long lasting shine and it doesn't weigh my hair down. This is definitely a win-win for my hair!

~Happy New Year~ January 1, 2011 {1/1/11}

1.01.2011

Happy New Year!!!

I'm not making any resolutions this year because I tend to break them by March right along with everyone else. Instead of resolutions, I am making a commitment to myself, my happiness, and my dreams. I am done working well past 5 o'clock and leaving no time or energy for my own interests.

In 2011 work will remain at work and whatever doesn't get done...well there is always the next day. I have things to do ;-)

In 2011 I would love to recapture the fearless, adventuresome spirit I had as a little girl. Somewhere in life I lost that zeal and began playing it way too safe (i.e. boring). I am done playing by the rules - it's time to have some fun.

So here's to a fabulous and prosperous 2011. May all our dreams come true!!!
