6.08.2011

The dreadful blonde weave, the black eyebrows (the overly arched left one is REALLY working my nerves), and that bright lipstick...
Was Joan Crawford the inspiration for this cover???

Not feeling this cover at all... Anyhoo, without further ado, the winner of the ticket to Sunday's show is... Brandy!!!!  Email me ASAP :)

Lyrical Foolishness: Run The World (Girls)

5.23.2011

I have a like/dislike thing for Beyonce. Rarely do I like her hit singles which are typically the songs written solely by her. Single Ladies grated on my last nerve but I really liked If I Were A Boy and a few of the unreleased songs from her last CD.

Her latest offering Run The World (Girls), is another one that caused me to scratch my head when it debuted. I have only heard the song once and that was one time too many. The epic (according to the masses) video will remain a mystery because I cannot bear to hear the song ever again. The lyrics are just awful. Banal and nonsensical rush to my mind as perfect adjectives for the lyrics of Run The World.

Mrs. Carter's self appointed patron saint of female empowerment schtick is getting old and repetitive. Take a gander at the stellar lyrics below and if you will excuse me, I'm going to go read a really thick book or maybe I'll get all up in some dude's grill and tell him he might think he freak this like I do...but he don't. Yeah. That does seem like the thing to do. And for the bitches who can't fade her, do they not run the world??? How can we girls determine if we are in fact a girl who runs the world or not??? Exactly who is included in this world of girl domination??? So many questions... :/

Girls, we run this mutha (yeah) - repeat 3 times
Girls, we run this mutha
Girls

Who run the world? Girls

Some of them men think they freak this like we do
But no they don’t
Make your check come at they neck
Disrespect us no they won’t
This goes out to all my girls that’s in the club rocking the latest
Who could buy it for themselves and get more money later
I think I need a barber
None of these bitches can fade me
I’m so good with this
I remind you I’m so hood with this
Boy I’m just playing
Come here baby
Hope you still like me
If you hate me
My persuasion can build a nation
Endless power our love we can devour
You’ll do anything for me

Who run the world? Girls

It’s hot up in here DJ don’t be scared to run this run this back
I’m repping for the girls who’re taking over the world have me raise a glass for the college grads
This goes out to all the women getting it in get on your grind
To other men that respect what I do please accept my shine
Boy you know you love it how we’re smart enough to make these millions
Strong enough to bear the children then get back to bidness
You better not play me oh come here baby
Hope you still like me if you hate me
My persuasion can build a nation
Endless power our love we can devour
You’ll do anything for me

Who run the world? Girls
Who are we
What we brought
The world
Who are we
What we brought
The world
Who are we
What do we brought
We brung the world
Who are we
What we brought
We brought the world
Who run the world? Girls

Yay. Girl Power.

ALOS @ the Movies: Obsessed

4.27.2009

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm not the biggest Beyonce Knowles fan. I like some of her music but the worldwide love affair with her, I really don't get. As a vocalist, I think she's an okay singer. She's definitely not a great singer. I save the description of a great singer for the likes of Whitney Houston, Jazmine Sullivan, Jill Scott, and Chrisette Michele. You guys get the point.

Well I went to see Obsessed mainly because I'll go see anything Idris Elba is in. That man is beyond sexy. I would sit through two hours of him reading the dictionary out loud. Obsessed opened in theaters last Friday. When I checked online for reviews of Obsessed, I found there were none. Movie critics were not given the opportunity to preview the movie which I believe contributed to the number one rating. I wonder who decided to not allow the critics a sneak preview? Very. Shady. I don't always agree with the critic's review but I do like reading them just to get their thoughts.

So $17.00 was shelled out for Obsessed this afternoon. This movie was beyond boring. The plot was not developed enough, there was no background story on Ali Larter's character. Why did she become so obsessed with her boss? Idris Elba's character did nothing in my opinion to lead her on for her to become so hell bent on having him.

The movie was so utterly predictable. I can't even understand who thought this story was even necessary. Between Fatal Attraction and various Lifetime movies we've seen it a thousand times over.

I spent much of the movie texting my friends and getting extremely annoyed with each scene. Beyonce's acting wasn't that bad but the tired cliches and the people in the theater calling out what they thought was going to happen next (they were right by the way) made this a waste of my afternoon. The much talked about fight scene between Beyonce and Ali was also boring.

I really wish we had skipped this movie as my friend was quite annoyed and I had to buy him a $3.75 box of Buncha Crunch to keep his mouth shut.

Obsessed was a major thumbs down.

A Life of Style: Beyonce & Jay-Z

1.08.2009

Rarely do I post anything about celebs but I couldn't let any of this go.

WTF is up with Beyonce's hair? The roots are clearly in need of service and her weave is going in all four directions looking as if it wants to lift off her head altogther. Was there not enough time to grab a brush and smooth this mess into a chic low chignon?
Jay-Z, Jay-Z, Jay-Z...Hova, what's wrong? *sigh* The glasses. You have been rocking those Mr. Peabody frames for too damn long and it must stop. Now I too wear glasses for reading and watching TV so I can totally sympathize if you in fact are near sighted or far sighted but ummm...these frames are just not you. If anyone from Oliver Peoples is reading this, holla at Hov please.
These pictures were snapped last night at the premiere of "Notorious". Beyonce's "hair" looked a ragged mess and her husband looked as though he came straight from the studio or a very thought provoking lecture at NYU. I can't call it.
Not too long ago, Mrs. Knowles Carter was quoted in Seventeen magazine saying "I've been wearing my hair straight without any extensions." Yeah okay...
We all know Beyonce has a "special relationship" with the truth and even Stevie Wonder can see she has a weave.
Try again Bey and Jay-Z let the glasses go.
