Haute Bag Lady Bag of the Week

6.24.2010

My new bag is this week's Haute Bag Lady Bag of the Week. This gorgeous tote is the London Fog Metallic Paige. I picked it up at Loehmann's after work yesterday and since I have the Loehmann's Gold Insider Club card, I automatically get 10% off all purchases. Saved $9 and some change (every little bit counts!)

Even though I spent an extra hour stuck inside Loehmann's due to the horrendous storms that hit Chicago, my new bag made up for the extra long communte home. I love all the pockets and slots and the roominess inside. I have a pretty full bag most days and what annoys me the most is a bag that doesn't hold its original shape and everything falls to the bottom making it impossible to find anything. The structured design of my new bag is what appealed to me. I had to have it ;)

Fuerza Bruta {Look Up!!}

6.20.2010

I was invited to the Fuerza Bruta Blogger Bash on Wednesday and I was completely (and sometimes literally)blown away by the nonstop action, pulsating beats, and windstorms.

Fuerza Bruta isn’t just a performance, it’s an experience and a mind trip. Honestly whatever you take from it - is what it is. I saw social rebellion and self expression come to life in the form of rhythmic anarchy. To someone else, Fuerza Bruta may just have been a nonstop party. The great thing is both points of view are right. Here’s a quote from the program:

The language is abstract, each one thinks what they want. Absolutely abstract. Since the creation, no one knows the meaning of the work, because it doesn’t have one.”

I guarantee you have never seen anything like Fuerza Bruta. After checking Broadway in Chicago’s website and reading that I’d be standing for the 65 minute show, my eyebrow raised a little bit but my curiosity was definitely piqued. I slipped my flats on and met my good friend at the theatre.

The audience stands on the stage during the entire show. Upon arriving we tried to find the best spot to stand because there’s a height issue for me (I’m just barely 5’3” in flats). I wasn’t sure where to position myself to best see anything and it didn’t matter much anyway because everyone standing in front of me was blocking what little view I managed to find.

We were told to turn the flashes on our cameras off before the show began. The ushers were on stage directing the audience on where to stand during the various scenes. Thank goodness my friend is like 5’10”  she played cameraman (Thanks V).

I can’t begin to explain the show to you guys so please enjoy the pics and the video below. If you’re in Chicago, I HIGHLY recommend seeing Fuerza Bruta.

The Humidity Wars {Drugstore Gem Product Review}

6.16.2010

As many of you may know, Chicago is either colder than Antarctica or hotter than the lowest level of hell. The humidity here can be ridiculous and your hairstyle will not survive it. You'll leave home with bouncy curls but end up with a flat stringy mop on your head.

Yesterday I styled my hair all cute but in my hurry forgot to protect it. By the time I left work, the humidity was thick and in full force. I walked two blocks and my hair was DOA. Of course the rain came and it got even hotter. When I made it home, I screamed when I saw my hair. Yes it was that awful. I grabbed my can of Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray and placed it on the shelf so I wouldn't forget it this week even if I was rushing. In my opinion, this hairspray works very well.

I typically style my hair with 2 to 4 self holding rollers in my crown so I can have some volume in that area and use a flat iron to bend the rest of my hair. Then I finger comb it for a slightly tousled look and spray it on the days that I know it will be humid. The Sleek & Shine formula does what it says, it gives my hair a nice shine and doesn't dry it out. My hair can also be restyled if I choose to do so. The hold isn't hard or heavy despite being labeld as Ultra Strong 4 and it leaves no flakes. Best of all it repels the humidity.
I purchased the hairspray at my local CVS for $3.99. A major drugstore gem!!

I highly suggest it for combatting this summer's humidity wars!

Zoe Saldana: Simply Chic

6.05.2010

Zoe Saldana rocked a white haute ruffled backless MaxMara dress, Christian Louboutins, and a sleek Ferragamo clutch to the Crystal + Lucy Awards where she received the “Face of the Future” award.

I love the dress but I’m biased because I love anything with ruffles. Some people think ruffles are too young and childlike but done right they are anything but. Zoe definitely got it right with this look. The contrast of the black ribbon belt is a nice touch as well. The one criticism I do have are the shoes. I’m just not sure about them with that particular dress. I would have opted for something light and strappy. Nonetheless, Zoe chose a great dress and she looked fabulous!

What do you think of Zoe’s look? Do you like the shoes? Talk to me!

Drugstore Gems: Lumene Time Freeze Firming Day Cream {Lumene Luvah}

6.03.2010

lumene time freeze firming day cream

Today’s drugstore gem is by one of my favorite brands, Lumene. I have never had a bad experience with any Lumene products.

For the past three weeks, I have used Time Freeze Firming Day Cream as an eye cream. I wasn’t too happy with the eye cream I was previously using and as soon as I used the last of it, I went in search of a better one. While I was at CVS, I decided to see what other options there were before I went to  high end brands like Lancome, Estee Lauder, or Chanel. Budget first!

Lumene Time Freeze Instant Cooling Eye Stick was $21.99 and in my opinion the stick was too small for the price. I don’t have dark circles, wrinkles, or puffiness eye issues yet, but I am in my 30’s and I want to keep the skin around my eyes tight. I decided to try the Firming Day Cream. CVS carries the 0.5 oz travel size for $3.99, which is what I purchased.

I apply the cream morning and night. I use it under my eyes and all around the lids. Three weeks of continuous use, has made the skin around my eyes much firmer and smoother. I love it! I highly suggest giving it a try if you want to start taking good care of the delicate skin around your eyes.

I’m a Lumene Luvah!

Until next time!!
